Meteor sighting over Perth County Ontario
My family and I spotted a meteor tonight around 6:59 PM. It appeared to come straight down and was brighter than any I had ever seen... actually this is the first I'd ever seen except for that one caught on tape and shown on the Internet. My guess is that if it landed, it would have been somewhere between Stratford and Sebringville in Perth County (Ontario).
Update: After a bit of research on the Net, what we most likely saw was a lucky viewing from the Taurids meteor shower... at least the timing seems right. Could have been something from the Leonids, but we're a few days early for those.
Update 2005/12/04: Australian meteor watchers can check out a follow-on posting regarding a recent sighting "down under".
Update 2007/03/12: I heard on the local news that there were more sightings in the Waterloo region. The website for our local television station CKCO is reporting:
Guelph and Cambridge police fielded numerous calls Sunday night from people saying they saw flashes of light in the sky.
The calls came in around 8 o'clock. Some reported seeing a meteor with a blue flame. Someone reported seeing something fall into a field near Ayr.
Police believe it was a meteor shower.
